There's no doubt the people who work in the system are heroes (an over-used but appropriate term in this case), but that was never in question.<br /><br />Over and above the tragedy of every single one of the 145 deaths (that we know about...there are rumours of more), is the veil of secrecy that's come down to save the political skin of a tired government. <br /><br />A government truly committed to improving any system, but in particular one as important as child welfare, would use each and every death as a wake-up call to make improvements. The only way the public, who are ultimately the guardians of most of these kids, will know whether improvements are being made is through the disclosure of as much information as legally permitted. <br /><br />After 40+ years secrecy has become the hallmark of the PC Party.
